Hovinbyen Sirkulære Oslo (HSO) is a collaboration between proprietors, businesses, knowledge milieus and the municipality of Oslo. The aim is to develop HSO, with base in the three impact centers, Økern, Ulven and Haraldrud, to become an innovation district which will reduce emissions and create new jobs. A-lab and Civitas won the contract for the feasibility study for HSO, which was launched during Oslo Urban Week. Behind the team was Civitas who is a heavyweight in societal planning within the cross section of real-estate, readjustment and sustainability. Together with A-lab, who has worked on the biggest projects in Oslo, the team has delivered a feasibility study that might unlock the answers for an innovation district with circularity as its’ DNA. The study was extensive, we had great help from external consultants: Arcgency from Denmark, Jack Sallabank from Futurestudios in London, Mikkel Sørensen, director of DTU Skylab in Denmark, Andreas  Gjede, director  for Copenhagen School of Entrepreneurship and Urban Trigger/NTNU.

The feasibility study shows that to succeed, one has to invest/focus in three power/impact centers in the area: Økern, Ulven and Haraldrud. Within these three areas, it is possible to combine 8200 new residential units and 35 000 new jobs – all with the intention of making building-, construction and waste management circular.
